Medical Myth Busters: Debunking Race-Based Misconceptions in Healthcare (Live Online)

*Optional Q & A to follow from 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm (No CEs)

Medical MythBusters examines several long-standing medical myths related to race and their influence on healthcare practice. Although many of these beliefs were historically taught in medical education, current research demonstrates that race is a social construct rather than a biological determinant. This workshop explores the historical origins of race-based medical assumptions and reviews evidence that challenges these misconceptions. Participants will learn how race-based myths can affect clinical decision-making, patient trust, and health outcomes, while encouraging critical reflection on the importance of evidence-based and equitable approaches to care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common race-based medical myths and misconceptions.

  2. Explain how these myths have historically influenced medical practice and patient outcomes.

  3. Apply evidence-based knowledge to challenge race-based assumptions in healthcare conversations.
